Restrospective

This is a pretty epic 6-hour mix of many of my favourite Progressive Trance and House hits, pulling from songs all the way back to 2008 (that’s 13 years ago already!!).

As it goes back as far as 13 years, this is actually a pretty good “soundtrack” for my post-university life, since I graduated about 13 years ago.

It brings back memories of the optimistic glow I had fresh out of university; entering the working world, ambitious to achieve so much. And the beauty of music is that this optimism teleports to my current self, who is now of an age plagued by cynicism and scepticism, and gives me a brighter perspective on the world.

Lofi hip hop

Relaxing yet sustaining to the core. I’ve recently really got into lofi hip hop music, especially for my early mornings and evenings.

It’s a little softer than EDM or Trance music and a great way to get work down before you’re in your prime zone.

I haven’t listened to this music much in the spring or summer months yet, but I have a feeling that it’s more of a “hunker up against the cold” kind of thing.

Will most likely be putting it in my seasonal repertoire of music.

Joe Hisaishi

One of Japan’s best contemporary composers, Joe Hisaishi has brought us many gems. He is perhaps most well known for composing almost all the music for the famous Japanese animator Hayao MIyazaki.

This set is a compilation of all the famous Miyazaki animes’ theme songs. Uplifting, heart breaking, soul nourishing, and bone chilling are some of the feelings invoked while listening. It helps if you have seen the films, but even if not I think this really speaks to the heart.

Finally, in this video you can see the whole orchestra “making” the music, which itself is a great reminder of the magical nature of music.
